I was amazed to see this slide at the 2025 ASCRS Foundation Symposium. Eye injuries are six times higher, compared to WWII in the Ukraine war for many reasons. Chief among them are visually guided Russian/Iranian/North Korean drones attacking during daylight hours.
The days of airplane night-time bombing runs are over. Now, civilians and first responders are being blinded trying to assist fellow citizens.
Our information is that only the military personnel are issued Military Grade Ballistic Protection(NATO and US Military).
BBH Eye Foundation has the support at the highest level from two of the three biggest providers of protective glasses/goggles: WileyX and Bolle. Both companies are eager to help. We have purchased thousands of dollars of glasses from both companies. Donations to expand this effort are needed: BBHeye.org.
The next challenge is to get them into Poland and then by van into Ukraine. There are no commercial flights into Ukraine. We have tremendous ‘in-country” support from Eye Care for Ukraine. To their knowledge, no other effort is currently working to deliver ballistic protection glasses to first responders.
